Douglas Adams once said that Bach's music is so profound that everyone listening to it would think that he is the only person in the world that can understand it and that somehow this was written personally for him.
I always found this the most beautiful performance of this piece by anyone including Goran himself. It creates such elegance, solemnity, and wholesomeness in my heart ❤️
Per me, una delle pagine più difficili di Bach, per noi chitarristi, anche più difficile della Ciaccona...E il maestro Goran fa sembrare semplice l'impossibile! Complimenti! For me, one of the most difficult pages of Bach, for us guitarists, even more difficult than the Chaconne ... And the master Goran makes the impossible seem simple! Compliments!

2HardBackRub that is a very dumb statement to make about a composer who defined an entire musical era. for this reason, it does not deserve a response, and i have wasted 45 very valuable seconds of my life. i'm off to eat a tomato

11-string baroque guitar. Göran Söllscher is arguably the greatest guitar player in the world. Yet without argument, J.S. Bach, the composer of this masterful piece, assigned the credit to where it is rightly due: SOLI DEO GLORIA! =)
Listened (and loved) so many versions of this...but THIS ONE. i need to listen about 184 more times to be sure but i think this is quite possibly the best one
+Julius Bernotas I think it is a Guitar made by the Swedish luthier Georg Bolin, I am 99.9999999% sure, because I know for a fact that the Maestro owns one.
+victorseger1 This is 100% true. This is an alto guitar made by the late Georg Bolin (1912-1993), Stockholm, Sweden. I studied guitar making for him and worked as his assistant from 1982-1992. It is tuned in G, just like a renaissance lute with descending basses down to b flat. The melody string are either tuned as the lute, or as the guitar, the difference being the tuning of the third string. It is truly an amazing instrument, here being played by a master... / Peter Bengtsson, master luthier

Goran is easily one of my favorites. The guitar is an 11-string Alto that is either a Bolin or a copy of a Bolin (by Anders Uppstrom?). These guitars have the same 6 strings as a "standard" concert guitar, with 5 bass strings added to be able to play lute suites (such as what these two pieces are from) as written. If you can't find one used, you would have to order one and then wait for it to be made for you. Bolins are very rare and valuable; however, a copy might go for under $20,000.00.
The D in the second bar of the second part of the Bourrée is raised an octave on normal guitars which sounds quite odd (as is the case for many other Baroque music transcribed for standard guitars). Happy to hear it on a guitar that can play it correctly! Seriously the standard 6 string guitar really can't dip deep enough and I wish 8 strings were the standard. Definitely gonna get myself a nice 8 string when I can.
On Bach music he plays all notes (not in this performance) if you listen to the CD he recorded with the same guitar. Also Narciso Yepes, on his 10 strings guitar, many years before, played all Bach suites for "Lute o Cembal" using all the notes required. So, tuning the guitar depending on the tonality, you can take advantage of all the strings. Just like the ancient lute players did.
***** Although this modified guitar has 11 strings, here the musician never uses more than the common six strings of a standard guitar. I guess the other five are for when he needs bass notes. It's sort of like those double-neck guitars played by some country artists from the 1960s. Just a gimmick.
You're right. He was absolutely focused on the first six strings. #NoMorePSUV_G4 #ForceIsNeededToCrushMaduro #TransitionWithoutChavistas #SeeYouInFreedom
For 43 years, he learned to play these 4 minutes 34 seconds , every day!:)
And he's still playing today! With his own RUclips channel!
he practiced!! not learned. this is easy honestly

It's actually easier than how it looks

Sollscher is certainly a gifted guitar player, and you could say he is one of the greats, but "the greatest guitar player" he is not.
Very kind from him not to play the low notes. This encourages me to keep practicing the gigue with the guitar of 6 strings, thanks Goran.
An amazing performance and an amazing instrument.
I am a Goran Sollscher fan as well. This is simply incredible to watch. Thank you very much for sharing.

One of the best performance of this piece.
brutally difficult piece that I've wrestled with for years. So stinking difficult! yet he does it beautifully! kudos
Sounds like 2 guitars, so clean, so precise, and love that he is not reading music, all within, absolutley breathtaking!
Fabulous!!! The repetition of the last sequence is very logical ..👏👏👏
Superb playing. I love Bach played on the guitar and you are one of the best at it in my opinion.
Great performance. I think I could play Gigue on loop for an eternity!
Yes - Gigue and Gavotte!
Perfect as always. I heard this masterpieces from Goran long time ago. I this discovered this beautiful music. Thank you.

TheIsaacshepherd Of course, that's true. In fact, there could be a few pieces he plays in which he feels the need for one or two more strings.
